This remake version of demo of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, may lead us to wonder if it will be yet another fan homage game challenging Nintendo's legal department?
It is well known that Nintendo has maintained strict control over derivative works based on its games, with its legal division often referred to as the "strongest legal department" by many in the gaming community. Among these, fan-made games have been a particular focus of Nintendo's restrictions. The company's stance on fan games is rooted in its belief that such creations, which draw upon elements from Nintendo's games, could potentially impact the image of their intellectual properties and characters among players. In instances where pre-existing fan tribute games are discovered, Nintendo typically issues warnings to the development team or distribution platforms under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), requesting the removal of these works. While Nintendo did introduce new regulations relaxing restrictions on game streams and cutscene videos in the past two years, these changes did not extend to fan homage games, leaving many gamers feeling that Nintendo's control is overly stringent.
