Dungeons of Dreadrock

No joking. Dungeons of Dreadrock is one of the best dungeon puzzle games of 2022. When my buddy recommend it to me, I thought it was just a common bite-sized dungeon crawler. But I swiftly realized Judge not a Book by its cover - Dungeons of Dreadrock is absolutely worth a try. What’s the strong point of Dungeons of Dreadrock? The first, is the level design. Picture the puzzle game we usually played which all the puzzles belong to the same types, right? The only difference is the difficulty. Dungeons of Dreadrock is not the same. It gives me a feeling or vibe of Zelda brought to me, always trying to present some new ideas on the next floor. So for me, even though I learned some tricks or rules in previous levels, there were still some surprises waiting for me.

As far as i have play, the game is great both in game play and history, except for the part were you have to take the sentence "all men must die" as a truth in order to progres, i swear, the moment i saw that sentence ther i knew it was going to ask me to take it as i truth, but i spend 5 minutes trying other option hoping i was wrong, sadly, i was not

If you look at some of the games I’ve reviewed for TapTap, it’s no secret that I’m a role-playing game fanatic. There’s not much I love more than going on an epic journey, upgrading my gear, and leveling up to take on ever-more-powerful foes. But I also recognize why some people get pushed away from the RPG genre: These games tend to be all about abstraction. A character’s health and well-being are abstracted into hit points; the power of an attack is determined by a (usually invisible) die roll; even the way conversations play out sometimes comes down to stat comparisons. Does this character believe what you’re saying? Let’s check your charisma stat.

I almost deleted this game the second I opened it because of this. ⬇️ But then I realized that maybe the dev did this on purpose because we actually got a female protagonist here. I also found an interview with the dev Christoph Minnameir on creating a female lead. It's interesting to read although I don't really like some of the interview questions. Back to Dungeons of Dreadrock. The game itself is a nostalgic adventure game full of well-designed puzzles. I really like the voiceovers and the bold black font.

I started playing Dungeons of Dreadrock with an expectation that it would be just another pixel-art dungeon crawler game, but it turned out to be a completely different experience (in a positive way). The atmosphere, music, and the story narration accompanied with an amazing voice-over are perfectly complementing the story which is also very well written! For a long time I didn't get this feeling of surprise while playing a small indie game. Although it's not exactly small - there are around 100 levels in this game and each level has a unique puzzle to solve. Some of these puzzles made me feel really smart whenever I managed to figure it out by myself. The game forces you to think outside of the box right from the start and the first 10 levels have one of the most intuitive and seemless tutorial sections in my opinion.

When you first see this game, you may think it is very ordinary, just a retro style dungeon crawling game. Actually, Dungeons of Dreadrock is a pretty well-plotted puzzle game. This game has almost 100 levels and each level is designed differently. This makes me very impressed. The only weapon a girl has is a knife, and each level has unknown traps in addition to the threat of monsters. You can also see tributes to other games, such as Zelda and Shovel Knight. Just be prepared to die and try again until the success.

DoD, or whatever you call it is just fine. I mean, it's probably not as good as some of the big names, but if only talking about the gaming experience itself, it's classic, nice and smooth. If you want some tast of your childhood or just wanna chill on the sofa for a couple hours, it is def your choice. The game get revenue by ads which is skippable, and it's not too bad from my personal experiences (tho I bought the pass anyways)
