There are only a few differences in terms of the core gameplay:
* It's 5v5 instead of 6v6 like in the original Overwatch
* The team comp meta is more focused on hard carry DPS's and supports as opposed to the ridiculous shield and defense meta of the old Overwatch
* The game is more focused on individual skill expression rather than solely around the entire team
* Being 5v5, it effectively killed the "goats" comp (3 tank comp).
* Overwatch 2 is becoming more MOBA like with new hero passive abilities.
* It has a new tug-of-war competitive game type.
