The Infamous Murder Hotel Makes An Appearance Once Again?

The Devil In Me is the recent installment for the Dark pictures Anthology. By far this is one of my favorite “episodes” or tales that really pushes the super heavy inducing anxiety I received from this game. dark pictures love to throw twists or there iterations of events like The Quarry was a werewolf story, House of Ashes is a vampire story and so on well this time we leave the supernatural realm and step into the serial killer world. The story of The Devil In Me is based on a true story of America's Very first Serial Killer and the most famous one at that. If you're a serial killer documentary nerd like me then during the prologue will have you do wait a minute moment. As the game takes place in a hotel and only one man runs the hotel that goes by the name Henry Howard Holmes.
Essentially our main antagonist is a copy cat killer of some sorts who is completely obsessed with the ideology of Mr. Holmes and decided to build a complete replica of the exact hotel Holmes made which is the World's Fair Hotel which was smart since the world fair was about a mile away from the hotel. This hotel would be the deadliest thing anyone to ever come by since everything was either booby trapped or you were being surveyed.
The beginning bits of the game focuses on a couple trying to move into the hotel and soon notices that they're stay will need rather quickly. This episode of dark pictures is rather nice adding small puzzles and barely any QTEs which in my opinion is amazing since the other games kind of overdid it. The mystery behind this killer had me on the edge of my seat constantly because there were so many clues of like we need to know whose the killer and what's up with all of these animatronics and honestly Made me feel like this was five nights at Freddy's or a weird chuck e cheese spot.
Your entire time playing this game will be uncovering the mystery of this new Holmes Killer and surviving the night with your whole team and of course the dog towards the end of the game. I feel the game excelled a lot for the atmosphere and having many moments of choosing who lives or does and so many ways to trip up the player.  A group of documentary film makers receive a mysterious call inviting them to a modern-day replica of serial killer H.H. Holmes’ ‘Murder Castle’. It’s an opportunity that’s too good to pass up and could be just the thing they’re looking for to win some much-needed public interest.
One cool added collectible in the game is these coins which essentially is what the curator wants you to grab. I love the True-Crime aspect behind the devil in me. This episode of the anthology isn't the greatest in my lineup. I genuinely loved House Of Ashes to be by far the best in the series and the Quarry being like a close second. From when i played with my friends i didn't notice any major bugs but from doing my research i noticed a lot of other players had bugs. The overall mystery is what sucked me into the lore of the game of trying to see whose the copy cat killer. With a $40 price tag on steam and to end of season 1 of the Anthology i feel like the ending was weak but watching the events play out with the curator is by far my favorite cliffhanger in the Devil In Me.
