DEV BLOG #3 - Catch the Very TABS Moments
Hey folks! Happy new year!
In last November’s in-dev video "Wobbly Athletics Championship!", you may have noticed, we used the buttons in the upper right corner of the screen to slow down & pause the game to show the “foul play” details without UI display.
In this January dev blog, we will share how TABS Mobile will implement slow motions and freeze frames during exhilarating battles, as well as the design of hiding controls and menus.
「Battle Speed Controls & Pause」
In the PC version of TABS, players can easily switch between regular speed, slow motion, and super slow motion, or pause the battle at any time, achieving a tense bullet time and time freeze effect through simple mouse and keyboard clicks.
As for the mobile version, we need to integrate the speed adjustment and pause options on the limited size of the mobile screen, while also considering minimizing the visual interference of these buttons.
Therefore, we have referenced common UI designs from video players, enabling different speeds into a drop-down menu placed at the upper right corner, displayed in a minimalistic style, convenient for players to intuitively adjust the combat speed.
「Hide Battle UI」
In the PC version of TABS, there is no UI obstruction during autoplay battles, whilst for the mobile version, due to touchscreen operation being required, the added left joystick and various buttons could affect the combat view.
For the sake of a better visual experience, we have added the option of "Hide Battle UI": by clicking the eye button in the upper right corner, all buttons and joysticks will disappear, which allows players to take clean screenshots of fascinating battle fights.
Even with the buttons and joystick hidden, players can still operate normally by clicking or dragging where the button and joystick are originally.
Meanwhile, the speed adjustment menu is simplified to a speed button while hidden, players can simply touch the original menu location, and achieve a speed switch that cycles through: regular speed (1.0X)→slow motion (0.1X)→super slow motion (0.01X).
Thanks for reading today’s sharing about battle speeds and UI display. These features might not be the final version as we are still working on optimizing them. If you have any suggestions or comments, don’t forget to join our official Discord for more discussions!
