Another compelling twist on the Vampire Survivors formula...this time, with zombies!

Another week, another mobile take on the Vampire Survivors phenomenon (or Archero if you prefer that point of comparison. The Doomsland: Survivors is an auto-aim, auto-shoot action game where you play as a survivor in the midst of a brutal zombie apocalypse. You must traverse various environments and fight waves of zombified humans, animals, and plants to survive.
The game opens with a really cool comic book-style cutscene (see the screenshot above), and it kind of made me wish there was more story. In the hours I've played since, however, there hasn't been a single drop of plot, sadly.
The gameplay is very solid, though. The game introduces new enemy types at a solid enough pace that I never got bored. Enemies and room layouts were often challenging but not in a way that felt unfair. Each type of undead bad guy has unique attacks that I had to learn how to properly avoid, but the game does a great job telegraphing these incoming volleys.
The only downside to The Doomsland: Survivors is that it employs all the usual free-to-play and live-service game monetization tricks: loot boxes, battle passes, regular (optional) ads to earn bonuses, and so on. This stuff all feeds into character growth through leveling up the survivors, buffing their equipment and weapons, and unlocking talents. But if you've got free-to-play fatigue, it may wear on you.
