Krafton, the South Korean gaming company, has recently received approval from Indian authorities to resume operations of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). The popular battle royale mobile game was initially launched after the Indian government banned PUBG in the South Asian market.

After weeks of negotiations with New Delhi, Krafton secured permission to relaunch BGMI earlier this month. However, there are some restrictions imposed on the app's operations in India. India's deputy IT minister, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, announced that BGMI has been granted a three-month "trial approval" after addressing data security and server location concerns.

Before its ban, PUBG and its modified version BGMI were among the most popular mobile games in India. With over 50 million monthly active users, PUBG surpassed all rivals across gaming platforms. Its popularity significantly contributed to the growth of India's e-sports market and benefited streaming platforms like Rooter and Loco.

Krafton expressed gratitude towards Indian authorities for allowing them to resume BGMI operations. CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn also thanked the Indian gaming community for their support during this time. The company is excited about welcoming players back onto their platform and remains committed to delivering exceptional products and services in India.

The decision comes as New Delhi considers reversing bans on several apps previously deemed as having links to China. Fashion giant Shein is also set to re-enter the Indian market through a partnership with local retail giant Reliance Retail.

To distance itself from any perceived affiliation with China, Krafton severed ties with publishing giant Tencent and moved to Azure servers in India. The company then relaunched PUBG as BGMI last year with slight modifications. When New Delhi blocked the game again in July 2022, it did not affect users who already had the app installed on their devices.
