From LOL to roguelike survival | Purrfect Journey Devlog 1.1
Hello, fellow adventurers! I'm Bo, the head of StoneGate Games. Hope you already have a general idea of our first game, Purrfect Journey. Today, I'm happy to introduce the team who make Purrfect Journey, and share a bit related behind-the-scenes story.
So first of all, who we are?
We are a group of veterans who have been working in the gaming industry for an average of 10 years. Our team members came from top gaming companies such as Riot Games, Perfect World, etc., and we have been getting our hands dirty on many successful games, eg. LOL and Valorant, with a variety of genres, including MOBA, card RPG, FPS, and so on. But more importantly, we are passionate gamers ourselves. We love playing games, and we suffer the same pain points. We want to make games that players love to play, games that solve players' pain points including ours :), and games that are more fun to play.
Now story time about why we wanted to make Purrfect Journey.
We love roguelike action games. Before, we spent tons of hours on games like Vampire Survivors, Hades, Survivor.io, etc. Indeed, those are great games, and lots of players, including us, loved them. We enjoy the thrill of monster carnage, enjoy the uncertainty that comes with random change, and enjoy the achievements coming from our continuous efforts. On the other hand, after playing days and nights, we feel some common pains.
We started to feel "bored" once we mastered the core gameplay. Yes, we still got fun from randomness, but the fixed elements and combinations, well-memorized meta, etc. make the adventure play like a routine task feeling.
Furthermore, we lost motivation in the mid-late game period. Of course, you'll become more and more powerful, but for what? Self-achievement will be fulfilled eventually at one point. For games with only PVE mode, you can't show off your OP avatar or outplay other players. Sometimes we lost interest in continuing to engage in the game since nobody knows our marvelous achievements.
Admittedly those pain points don't hinder our love of this genre, so we decided to make a game with more fun, for ourselves, and for you. What we are introducing this time are:
• We give creative power to players. You can decide what skills you want to bring into your next adventure. You figure out which combinations are more OP. You do you. You accomplish yourself.
• Controlling one avatar to dodge attacks is not cool comparing control a group of avatars! You'll have lots of space to think here--how to dodge, how to tank and do health trade off at the same time, etc. A little bit of twist can bring a lot more depth and uncertainty to the game. Sounds more fun right!
• The end game is PVP. You have the power to use your own strategy and skills to outplay other humans. You think your skill sets are OP enough huh? Or your dodging skill is perfect? Well, try it by matchmaking with other players, and see who laughs last!
To sum up, we believe Purrfect Journey is a game we, as players ourselves, love to play. It aims to solve our pain points, and meet our definition of a fun game -- easy to start, hard to master, and never get bored of playing. We look forward to having more players try Purrfect Journey and give us feedback. See you soon!
