Balder dreamt that he was run through by a sharp weapon covered in thorns, and the person wielding this weapon looked identical to Hodr. His hands were soaked in his own blood.

After he awoke from the dream, Balder was summoned in secret by Odin. Odin had always doted on Balder, the smallest of his sons, and informed him of the「Maxim」 of Ragnarok,one of the significant omens of which would be Balder's death.

Odin asked Balder if he had noticed anything out of the ordinary, and Balder recounted his nightmare to the Allfather. After a moment of silence, Odin pacified Balder, saying that as the Allfather, he would not allow any such thing to occur.

A dark cloud of intrigue hung over Asgard and a rift appeared between the once-close Brothers of Light and Dark. At the Allfather's command, Balder built「Valhalla」 with「Hringham」 as its foundation and grew determined to stop the arrival of「Ragnarok」.

Later, after the「Yggdrasil Whisper」 took place, Odin fell into a deep slumber and did not tread beyond Gladsheim again. Thor, the God of Thunder, seized the opportunity to become acting Allfather, leading the Council of Asgard and the gods themselves.

Under the threat of force from Thor, Balder elected to compromise while Hodr was banished by Thor to Helheim. Because of the Maxim, Balder did nothing to stop this.

Later, Balder took the goddess Nanna as his wife, and at her behest, he privately went to Helheim to meet with Hodr.

Hodr, now King of the Helheim, requested that his adopted daughter Freyja be permitted to enter Valhalla, where she could become a Valkyrie in service of Asgard. Balder thus had Alvitr train Freyja and gave her an entirely new name—「Esther」.

With the passage of time, Ragnarok loomed ever closer. Balder found the three Norns and learned of「Soulbane」, which would be crucial to awakening Odin.
