Diablo IV's Season of the Construct gives players a robot buddy to adventure with

Diablo IV has been through some big ups and downs since launching last summer, but the game's third season is about to begin, and it may be the biggest and most interesting one so far. The world of Diablo may be mostly known for angels and demons, but this time mechanical monstrosities will be getting in on the action.

Titled "Season of the Construct," this season will see players journey to the depths underneath the desert of Kehjistan, where ancient robotic technology has sprung back to life and been made to serve the forces of evil. Players will make camp at the town of Gatehall and explore various vault dungeons full of the titular constructs as they attempt to master this powerful force for themselves.

While the new seasonal questline sounds plenty intriguing, the most exciting addition in the Season of the Construct is the Seneschal Companion, a little robotic spider buddy who players will recruit and power up throughout the season. Players will equip their Companion with two new types of drops—Governing Stones and Tuning Stones—which will determine their behavior and stats. Players will spend the season searching for more powerful and rarer stones to keep buffing their new friend.

The Seneschal Companion seems like a smart addition to Diablo IV, both in the sense of being an likable AI-controlled partner for even the classes that don't usually get AI teammates, and in the sense of providing players a unique power sink to focus on for the duration of this season. We'll have to see how it actually turns out when the Season of the Construct goes live next week on January 23, 2024.
