Game Review: Riptide GP: Renegade
Riptide GP: Renegade, created by Vector Unit, is side scrolling hydrojet racing game which immerses the players into the world of illegal racing. It is different from other racing games by providing the setting of racing on water surface and due to the realistic water physics it makes the game more interesting. The water is actually real and waves, splashes and currents influence the hydrojets making the racing as real as it can get.
One of the strongest features of Riptide GP: The fact that it is a rather chaotic game could also be an asset, as for example the word ‘Renegade implies. Such great options allow players to do some mind blowing stunts while tackling difficult paths and all these are well constructed. From large ramps in city sintetic models to water highway packed with obstacles, each track is described and not bland at all, providing adequate enough variation. There is also a useful plot that contributes to the game as the gamer has to play the role of a racer banned from racing and is trying to work his way back into the underground racing scene.
In terms of customization there are many choices that can be made for the hydrojets and other elements in game characteristics that can be changed. Career can be progressive since the jets and the upgrades are earned from racing and performing stunts. Aside from the single player mode where you can have campaign, the game also has online multiplayer for up to 8 players which are fast and makes the players adrenaline rushing. Thus it makes the game longer than just the regular singleplayer version and makes it possible to have a sense of competition for anyone who would want it.
Although the core gameplay is not questionable challenging the game has strong artificial intelligence opponents, difficult stunts and requires certain time to get used to controls but once done it feels great. Overall, Riptide GP: Renegade is a very exciting and bright racer which offers new ideas and remarkable graphics. In particular, it is recommended to watch it for lovers of racing and action games.
