Review of Graveyard Keeper by tinyBuild

Graveyard Keeper is a very interesting game that is part of RPG simulation games that were developed by tinyBuild. This game tells a player that he or she is a keeper of a medieval graveyard with juggling with a number of moral and practical questions and decisions.
In its essence, the game focuses on both the comedy aspect and on its rather peculiar plot. In this game, similar to Freespace 2 and/or Deseret, you do not begin with managing or farming a town like in most games but instead you are given the task to run a graveyard and pick up dead bodies in order to decide how effectively and efficiently you can make use of the carcasses. The choices range from making tombstones for dead characters to selecting the state of the body before burying (or using for other, let’s say more sinful purposes) which is as comedic and fun as the rest of the options in the game.
I particularly want to highlight the pixel art visuals since they look really good, and the game has a really good amount of details for a pixel art game at least in my opinion. Medieval environment is rather established and the tones are dark, but at the same time there is an element of humour in the game. All the villagers you come across in the walk have their personality and needs which makes the environment lively and has several interactions occurring throughout the game.
However, the most appealing feature of the game can be considered to be the crafting mechanism in it. One more important aspect is resource management, you are going to need some items for the cemetery upgrade as well as other facilities. However, the pace at which the game is organized may sometime seem a little slow. Mission will usually take longer to complete as the game goes on, and this may not be well received by those players who want more action packed games.
One of the other features is moral decisions which the player can make. No matter how one decides to go about being an ethical graveyard keeper or a more ill-intentioned one, there is a lot of leeway to customise the game.
All in all, Graveyard Keeper can be easily labeled as one of the most original simulation games out there with its sarcastic undertones, and it’s quite fun to play through the game and follow the main character’s journey. It might not be the most exciting of experiences that one is likely to indulge in, specially in genres that offer games that involve management and crafting.
